ABCS AND PHONICS

ABCs and phonics for little learners

Each ME App letter card says the letter name, then its sound, then a word: “C is for cat. Kuh. Cat.” Hearing all three, again and again, is how children connect letters to the sounds they make.

Letter names and letter sounds

All 26 letters come with a picture word and a recorded voice that says the letter, its sound, and the word. Tap “Hear it” as many times as your child likes.

Short and long vowels

Vowel cards play the short sound first, as in apple. Older learners can also hear the long sound, when the letter “says its name,” as in acorn, eagle, ice cream, ocean, and unicorn.

Easy ways to practice at home

  • Say the sound together, then look for something at home that starts with it.
  • Hold up a card and ask, “What sound does this letter make?”
  • Play a five-question letter game in the app. It starts small and grows as your child gets answers right.
  • Move on to first words with Flip & Spell and Sound it out.
